Sayananda Das Baul | Music of Bengal

Satyananda is a Sadhaka, singer, musician, dancer, and composer from West Bengal, India. He is known for his rich repertoire of ancestral devotional music as well as his improvisations. He captivates audiences worldwide with his vocal range and instrumental mastery, all accompanied by his delicate yet dynamic dance.
He sings poetic texts written by many of his great predecessors but also brings his own compositions, performed with melodies deeply rooted in the traditions of Bengal. He has also composed famous melodies to accompany the texts of Bhaba Pagla, which hold significant renown in Bengal.
His devotion and musical expression have resonated in the world of imaginative music. His expressive voice and divine melodies have earned a reputation as a “song of the soul” (魂の詩声), leading listeners into a state of meditation, inner bliss, and healing.
He plays the Ektara (a one-stringed instrument), the Duggie (a small drum), and the Ghungur (ankle bells). He is also skilled in other percussion instruments such as the Anandalahari, Khonjori, and Shri Khol, as well as plucked string instruments like the Dotara.
Through his lute, drum, or bells, he praises the divine within every being, radiating his devotion and ecstatic energy.
His first two Gurus were Sri Bhagaban Das and Sri Krishnananda Goswami. Since childhood, he has followed the path of asceticism and musical learning under various masters, with his principal teacher being Sri Bhuban Mohan Das.
Satyananda and Hori, his travel companion who plays the Mondira cymbals, received a Chaitanya mantra from the centenarian master Sri Haripada Goswami, and together, they have traveled across India and to foreign lands.
